Attention all hairdressing learners and apprentices: Wella Xposure is now open for entries!

Now in its 18th year, the Wella Professionals Xposure competition is searching for hairdressing’s rising star of 2019…

This competition has been created specifically for hairdressing students and believes that hairdressing should be fun, inspirational and personal. The competition itself is broken down into stages to include regional heats and offers entrants the chance to showcase their skills . To enter, learners must be undertaking a level 2 or 3 hairdressing programme (NVQ/VRQ) and will need to upload a photograph of a creative commercial cut and colour look via the online entry form before Monday 4th February 2019.

There are some fantastic prizes on offer including an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience at the TrendVisionAward UK & Ireland Final 2019, a tailor-made education programme up to the value of £1000 and a tool kit worth £500!

We caught up with our former apprentice and winner of the 2017 competition, Jack Dettmer, to find out how taking part in this competition has changed his career so far:

“The Wella Xposure competition really gave me the taste of what it was like to compete against other hairdressers and be able to express myself through hair. I went in with no previous experience of competitions before, so I was slightly apprehensive as I’m sure everyone entering the competition was, I gave it my all and it really paid off. Winning gold was the highlight of my career at the time and from there I really have gone from strength to strength.

I made it to the regional finals of TrendVision for 2 years in a row now and was a finalist for the British Hairdresser of the Year Newcomer 2018.

All this, from the one competition at the start of my career! It’s made me realise this is something I love doing and has given me a massive boost of confidence. The Xposure prize was incredible, I spent a day at the UK finals of the Trendvision awards assisting the Sebastian cult team for the show in the evening, and got to enjoy the evening show as well. I then used my Wella prize fund for various Wella courses at the studios from the ‘science behind colour’ to ‘session styling’ which has then gone on to help me achieve even more.

To anyone looking at entering this competition go for it, you have nothing to lose, anything you do is a learning curve and helps you to better yourself, this might be something completely out of your comfort zone but just go for it as you might just surprise yourself.”

Jack started his Hairdressing Apprenticeship with Heart of England Training at P.Kai Hair and has now worked his way up to Assistant Manager at their popular Westgate Salon.

Rachel Timms, Training Director for Heart of England Training encouraged all aspiring stylists to enter this career changing competition adding:

“The Xposure competition is the highlight of our annual hairdressing calendar and we love the buzz that it brings to our Training Centres. We have seen a steady increase in applications over the past few years and have been consistently impressed with the creativity coming from our learners. We usually have a number of learners making it through to the regional heats which is a fantastic achievement in itself but we would like to see another Heart of England Training learner take the top prize again this year!”
