Aged 16 and just finished school, Matthew knew he wanted to go into management but wasn’t sure on what route to take, he saw an advert in the paper for apprenticeships with Heart of England Training and after speaking to a Recruitment and Guidance Advisor he applied for a Business Administration apprenticeship…

Our apprenticeships are suitable for all ages, from school leavers looking to take the first steps towards their chosen career paths right through to senior level managers wanting to enhance their existing skill set and keep up to date with the latest industry developments and best practice.

The theme for this years’ National Apprenticeship Week is ‘Blaze a Trial’ we caught up with one of our apprentice alumni, Matthew Lissaman, Regional Sales Manager for Häfele in London.

Aged 16 and just finished school, Matthew knew he wanted to go into management but wasn’t sure on what route to take, he saw an advert in the paper for apprenticeships with Heart of England Training and after speaking to a Recruitment and Guidance Advisor he applied for a Business Administration apprenticeship in Warwickshire County Council’s Business Resource Centre.

A few years later, after successfully completing his first apprenticeship Matthew joined Häfele to progress his career within their Architectural Ironmongery Technical Department and has undertaken several training programmes with the company since he joined. Infact, it was their reputation for offering first class training programmes that really drew him to the role with Häfele.

Speaking about the benefits of being an apprentice Matthew said:

It gave me a fantastic understanding of how real businesses are ran, and the ability to develop my skills outside the classroom. Starting an apprenticeship at 16 straight from school meant that I had to mature at a much quicker rate than many of my friends who were still at college completing classroom-based training. I also gained the same qualifications I would have at college with 2 years’ work experience, giving me an advantage in my next job role. More recently at Häfele, I have completed my Management apprenticeship with the help of Heart of England Training, which has allowed me to further develop my skills with regards to the management of my team.
