Retail Apprenticeship

Let’s be clear.. you CAN leave school at 16 and join one of our courses or apprenticeships.

As an apprentice, your role will depend on your employer – you could be assisting customers on the sales floor of a high street store or handling their purchases. Alternatively, you could be working in a specialist department and become a product expert able to help with specific queries.

Your expected starting salary (once qualified) £11,000 – £15,000

Options and pay

The apprenticeship in Retail is usually full time employed with a local employer.

Will I get paid?

Employed apprentices will be paid a minimum rate of £3.50 per hour (often more). Apprenticeship wage accurate as of 1st April 2017.

Anything else I need to know?

Your Retail apprenticeship is enhanced by two ‘excellence in retail skills’ day courses at no extra charge.

Heart of England Training also offer a wide range of ‘Every learner matters‘ sessions, trips and workshops to support your needs.

Advanced Apprenticeship
  • Learning while you are employed full time
  • A level 3 Diploma in Retail, Level 3 Certificate in Retail Knowledge and Level 2 Functional Skills in Mathematics & English
  • A programme lasting up to 18 months. However you can work at your own pace to finish sooner!

You will cover one mandatory unit plus a choice of many more units to complete your QCF (NVQ).

Mandatory unit:

  • Work effectively in your retail organisation

Examples of optional units:

  • Improve customer relationship
  • Develop individual retail service opportunities
  • Provide specialist support in helping customers to make purchase in a retail environment
  • Maintain the availability of goods for sale to customers in a retail environment
  • Source required goods and services in a retail environment
  • Help to manage a retail team

Intermediate Apprenticeships
  • Learning while you are employed full time
  • A level 2 Diploma or Certificate in Retail, Level 2 Certificate in Retail Knowledge and Level 1 Functional Skills in Mathematics & English.
  • A programme lasting up to 18 months. However you can work at your own pace to finish sooner!

  • Maximise product sales in a retail environment
  • Prepare products for sale to customers in a retail environment
  • Keep stock on sale at required levels in a retail environment
  • Process cash and credit transactions in a retail environment
  • Improve the customer relationship
